St Mary's Catholic School is a co-educational primary school located in Bowen. St Mary’s is proudly the first Catholic school established in the Townsville Diocese and has 151 students from Prep to Year 6.
Established by The Sisters of St Joseph in 1872, the parents of St Mary’s Catholic Parish have banded together with the help of religious orders and the wider Church to educate children with Jesus as the role model and Gospel values at its heart. St Mary's School has a proud ongoing tradition of academic excellence and serving the Bowen community, with small class sizes to enhance students’ learning opportunities.
The comprehensive curriculum caters for the individual needs of the students, nurturing and developing individual gifts and talents and encouraging children to reach their full potential in a supportive, engaging, challenging, secure learning environment.
Parents are welcomed and encouraged to support teachers in the education of their children through a range of activities and school events. St Mary’s teaches children to respect themselves, others and property and to make their own independent decisions whilst caring for one another. Senior student leadership positions help students develop skills that enhance their confidence, leadership and guidance. St Mary’s is vibrant and welcoming and creates positive, faith-filled enriching experiences for students and families.
